  • New Name Approved for Martian Surface Feature

    The name Gemina Lingula has been approved for a Martian feature located in the northern hemisphere at about 82N, 5E. For more information, see the map of the Martian quadrangle MC-1 in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.

  • New Crater Name Approved on Titan

    A crater on Titan located at 7.0N, 199.0W has been named Selk for the Egyptian goddess of knowledge, writing, education, and reptiles. See the Titan list of craters and images in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature for more information.

  • Large Crater on Mars Named Miyamoto

    A 160 km crater on Mars has been named for Shotaro Miyamoto, a Japanese astronomer who made many important observations of Mars. The crater is located at 2.9S, 7.0W and can be seen on map MC-19 in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.

  • New Name Approved for Use on Venus

    The Name Kono Mons has been approved for the Venusian feature located at 19.5N, 268.0E on Venus quadrangle V-28. See the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature for more information.

  • Ten New Names Approved for Enceladus Features

    The following new names have been approved by the IAU for sulci and fossae on Enceladus: Al-Medinah Sulci, Al-Yaman Sulci, Andal's Sulci, Bulak Sulcus, Makran Sulci, Misr Sulci, Shiraz Sulcus, Sind Sulci, Bishangarh Fossae, and Kaukabán Fossae.   • Three New Names Approved for Earths Moon

    Three new names have been approved in the polar areas of the Moon; the names Hinshelwood and Whipple for the north pole region, and the name Braude for the south pole region. For more information, see the list of Moon crater names in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.

  • Four New Crater Names Approved on Mars

    The names Danielson, Galap, Lipik, and Sarh have been approved for Martian craters. For more information, see the list of Martian crater names in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.

  • Two New Patera Names for Io

    Two new patera names have been approved for use on Io: Prometheus Patera and Grian Patera. See the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature for more information.

  • New Regio Name Approved for Titan

    The name Hotei Regio has been approved for the region at 26.0S, 78.0W on Titan. Hotei Arcus forms the southern margin of Hotei Regio. For more information, see the list of regio names on Titan and the Titan VIMS mosaic in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.
