  • Names Approved for 10 Small Satellites of Saturn

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved names for 10 small satellites of Saturn. These satellites were named according to the theme for retrograde (with an inclination of 90 to 180 degrees) bodies, and bear the names of giants and giantesses from Norse mythology. The names are Saturn LIV (Gridr), Saturn LV (Angrboda), Saturn LVI (Skrymir), Saturn LVII (Gerd), Saturn LIX (Eggther), Saturn LXI (Beli), Saturn LXII (Gunnlod), Saturn LXIII (Thiazzi), Saturn LXV (Alvaldi), and Saturn LXVI (Geirrod).   • Names Approved for Mars: Kyela, Kai, Elva, Tarime, and Límni

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved names for five craters on Mars: Kyela, Kai, Elva, Tarime, and Límni. For more information, please see the MC-12 map in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature

  • Name Approved for Mars: Pohl

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved the name Pohl for a crater on Mars. For more information, please see the MC-04 map in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.  

  • Name Approved for Lunar Crater: Bandfield

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved the name Bandfield for a small lunar crater. For more information, please see the LAC-82 map in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature

  • Name Approved for Mercury Feature: Challenger Rupes

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved the name Challenger Rupes for a feature on Mercury. For more information, please see the Mercury map H-09 in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature. 

  • Seven New Names Approved for Pluto: One Planitia, Two Valles, Two Craters, and Two Colles

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved seven names for features on Pluto: Rosetta PlanitiaLemminkäinen VallisVäinämöinen Vallis, Kowal, Coradini, Challenger Colles, and Columbia Colles.   • Names Approved for Europa: Ancaeus Linea, Arachne Linea, and Acacallis Linea

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved three new feature names for Europa: Ancaeus Linea, Arachne Linea, and Acacallis Linea. For more information, please see the Europa map in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.

  • Name Approved for Mercury Crater: Lorde

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved the name Lorde for a crater on Mercury. For more information, please see the H-15 map in the Gazetteer of Planetary Nomenclature.

  • Twelve New Names Approved for Mars Craters

    The IAU Working Group for Planetary System Nomenclature has approved the names Arvi, Bari, Daiyang, Gebog, Jintur, Luwuk, Maur, Poso, Satkania, Teknaf, Wukan, and Zhufan for twelve small craters on Mars.
